Unless you have an idea for an entirely new concept in software, you won't have much success on your own. All software currently on market has not been developed by one single person but in collaboration. I think it is impossible for just one person to be able to come up with a marketable piece of software that works efficiently and effectively. To be able to design anything you have to be imaginative and come up with the original idea, and then find collaborators whom you can trust not to pinch your idea.
