Advice sought in designing a website....?

Could anyone recommend a software package that has fairly simple templates and which is easy and quick to learn. I've done some HTML but would like to build a better website. There seem to be 100s on ebay that are really cheap to buy and plenty of freeware packages.....any recommendations from you guys out there ?Advice sought in designing a website....?

There are tons of templates, as you say, but the main thing that I recommend is to always design according to your target audience - who do you want to appeal to, what do you know about them, what will turn them off, what sort of internet connection will they largely have (dialup users will suffer slower to load pages less than broadband users, hence less graphics etc).

We can design the best, impactful sites in the world, but if they turn-off or don't grab our main audience, then the effort is lost. You can always find people that are in your target sample and test some ideas out on them.

Hope these thoughts help, I know it's not directing you to a package, but I've found many people missing the mark just on some simple elements of identifying who their main targets are, and missing them with their design.

Good luck! Rob
